  • What is Art Therapy?
UnMasked Expressive Therapies provides a variety of services for individuals.

While many adults are scared of "art" and feel they are no longer creative, because they "can't draw a straight line". In truth, the human brain never ceases to be creative: in the way we move, in the way we dress, even the pattern of the words we choose.

At Unmasked, we explore a variety of expressive arts, from pencils and paint to storytelling, from music to movement, to explore, discover and celebrate parts of ourselves that hold strengths and resources and heal what needs attention.

Art Therapy utilizes creative scribbling and playful mess making as a means to find new understanding in life's struggles. We all start out exploring the world through uninhibited imagination. While adults tend to forget this freedom, it is vital to our mental health to discover new ways of existing in a world that may not have turned out the way we expected.

Trauma and emotions are stored in the non-verbal portion of the brain in visual and sensory memories. When creative activity is utilized to express these images, discomfort can be removed from the body and resolved. We can use a multitude of creative expression to access the emotion rich center of the brain as a means to uncover old patterns of thought and create new life stories.

UnMasked is honored to support a variety of mental and behavioral health concerns. Our providers choose to work with clients across the age span to support healing.
