In Art therapy, the process and emotion are more important than the final product. Letting go of the need to create something "just so" allows for even deeper expression and powerful evocative art. Working in a group setting allows people to connect with others and build support networks. Perfectly Imperfect Art Adventure is a program hosting developmentally disabled adults in the SNAP program in conjunction with Opportunities, Inc. PIAA is an opportunity for these creative people to adventure into our art studio space where they have an opportunity to express themselves in art using adaptive tools and directives that make each person feel like an artist. They are invited to use a variety of media, make a mess and turn it into an exciting piece of contemporary art. It is so exciting to see their faces light up as their art is hung on the wall complete with matting. The joy is palpable! Ongoing Cut it Out- This program is inspired by the possible stressors of the day to day operations of police, EMS and firefighters. This is designed as a place for first responders to gather in a workshop setting with fellow professionals. Our workshop has the tools for metal, woodworking, leather craft, and printmaking to name a few. this is not a therapy session, but a gathering place for those in these service fields. Beginning April 2026 Drawing out the Dragons is a story-driven therapeutic program that utilizes table top role playing games to empowers participants to explore identity, communication, cooperation, and self-esteem through collaborative adventure. This is an imaginative space to build confidence, strengthen social skills, and discover their own voice. Adult group Feb -May 2026 Teen group June 2026 |
Memories in the Making is a water color based program designed to support individuals experiencing early memory loss. Research has shown that creating art can help slow the progression of many memory loss and lessen the affiliated challenges. This amazing program utilizes a single media and a variety of still-life objects and arrangements to stimulate memories and invite participants to paint and share their stories. Creativity often becomes easier and more important as we age. In fact, engaging in creative activities creative everyday, using as many senses as possible, helps the brain to age more successfully. Group creative engagement helps reduce stress and can improve overall physical health. UnMasked is working to build several programs for our Wisest Artists designed to maintain physical health, improve mental functioning and preserve memory. Project returning April 2026 Silent Soldiers- After a period of service, many service members struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction and PTSD. UnMasked offers an Art Therapy program to the service members and their families who have given so freely to protect our freedoms. Sometimes it is difficult to leave the emotional baggage of service behind and in these cases, oftentimes, the journey need expression. Veterans often find it difficult to establish therapeutic relationships due to a resistant and strongly masculine military culture. However, that resistance can be overcome in the creative atmosphere of the art therapy group. Art Therapists adopts a mental health recovery framework serving not as experts, but as guides. A non-directive approach gives veterans an opportunity to gain control over their recovery and derive an understanding and meaning of their personal experience, leading to long-term healing. Art making provides a variety of ways to express psychological needs and allows for a transformation of those images to create internal change and healing. Program begins June 2026 |
